15 November 1895 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 15th [November 1895]. I got up before 7 & started for Dorking by 8 o’cl train & arrived at Milton abt 9.30. I walked to Spring Farm with Mr Rate & we directed & superintended planting &c &c It was fine weather when I left London but it grew dark & windy as the day went on. We walked back to lunch at Milton & then it began to rain hard. Enid Rate & Lina Duff Gordon drove with me to the station & I left by 3.47 train & got home for 5 o’cl tea. I found Elaine at tea with Eda. After tea I went with Elaine round to Wimborne House & there Ivor was having come from Canford to see after his son Freddie. He was to start for the Cape to join a regiment which they now hear is disbanded. After sitting with Ivor some time he sent me home in his brougham & Elaine returned to her sister Francie where she is staying. Ivor came & dined with us. Eda played & he sang in the evening & he & I tried a duett.
