1 January 1896 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 1st January [1896]. Wrote many letters & copied with the type writer. Took a walk after lunch to Berners Street to buy an electric lamp– Then to Nottingham place to see my sister in law Mrs Fred: Layard whom I found at home with her daughter Amy. From there I went in a hansom to Gt Cumberland Place to see my cousin Mrs G. Somes & took her a remedy for headache “fenacetine.” I found her very suffering & only just out of her bed. I made her take a dose then & there & in ten minutes she was better & I left her & her sister Fannie Layard & went home to my tea. I let all my servants go out to the theatre this eveng leaving the house in charge of one of their friends & I went off to dine at 25 Park Crescent only Maria, Richard & Louis Du Cane were at home. The latter brought me home in a hansom at 11.
