17 January 1896 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 17th [January 1896]. I completed this morning typewriting Henry’s letters to Mr Clark. Nela came to see if I was going to Springfield today. I told her to return to lunch when I wd decide. My sister Kate came up from Hatfield with her boy Reggie & the old nurse Cox. I proposed to take Kate & Cox down to Springfield which we settled to do & told Nela when she came to lunch. She went to fetch her bag & met us at Victoria Station at 4.55. Reggie was to return to school at Winchester so we left him. Just before starting I had visits from Mrs Alex. Bagot & then from Mrs Holford. We got (Kate, Nela, Cox & I) to Springfield in the pitch dark abt 6 & found Bertha & Roberts busy putting down carpets. We arranged rooms, unpacked &c.
