19 January 1896 — Springfield Lodge, nr. Dorking, Surrey
Sunday. 19th [January 1896]. Kate, Richard, the 3 girls & I walked to Westcott Church in the morning. After lunch the sun suddenly came out & changed the face of Nature. Richard went off for a walk with the twins up Ranmore hill. Kate, Maria & I walked to Milton to tea. It was dark when we started home tho’ a young moon shone. We missed the good path over the fields and got into the muddy wet lane & Kate being very lame had great difficulty in getting home & was very tired.
