20 January 1896 — Springfield Lodge, nr. Dorking, Surrey
Monday. 20th [January 1896]. Richard, Kate & one of the twins returned to town & Kate & Cox went on home to Lutterworth. I painted a silk fan. Maria read aloud the “Lady of the last minstrel” & then we took a walk as the sun shone & it was very pleasant. We only went to the spinny in search of primroses which we found not. After lunch we all walked into Dorking & met Enid Rate on the way. Maria & I also walked back to Springfield by tea time & she was not over tired. Played backgammon with the girls in the evening.
