13 April 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 13th [April 1896]. There was a thunderstorm & heavy rain but tho’ not very fine the weather kept tolerable. Great excitement prevails because the Emperor William paid young Css Morosini a long visit yesterday. When I went to Css Pisani’s I met Ct Guiccioli who came to her straight from the great lunch party on board the “Hohenzollern” & he said the K & Queen of Italy were much annoyed at the Emperor’s having invited Css Morosini also. She has no position at Court—& is only a very pretty Venetian lady. Mrs Knatchbull (Dora Bright) came to tea with Eda—also Hilda Montalba yesterday. All the Royalties left Venice this evening. The weather being threatening the Royal people had to leave Venice in a closed launch. The King was standing outside with the Prince of Naples. The Emperor & Empress of Germany went in their yacht’s boat & as they passed here both of them recognised me & bowed several times.
