6 May 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 6th May [1896]. I went again to Passini’s studio & stayed there till 12. Came home & painted. Aline better. She got up to luncheon & went out in gondola with us. We went to the Eden’s garden & had tea there & sat in the sun which seems to do Aline good. The garden was lovely—a mass of iris & the roses beginning. Just as we got home, Clara & Hilda Montalba & their friend Miss Pike appeared. We gave them tea & they went up to the library to see their parrot who has not yet mated with mine. Aline went to bed before dinner. I read aloud to Augusta in the evening.
