12 May 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 12th May [1896]. I went to sit to Passini & came home at 11.30 to meet Cini who came to see Aline & he told her very seriously she must give herself up for the next year or more to getting well or else that she would be an invalid all her life. We lunched at 1 & then I took her to the station & saw her off with the Lambtons for Milan by the 2.5 train. She will sleep there tonight & go on tomorrow straight thro to London. From the station I went to Passini’s studio & gave him another sitting till 4.30. Went home & had tea & then Augusta & I went for a long row on the lagunes towards S. Clemente which was very soothing & resting. I was tired—from sitting for my portrait & from anxiety about Aline.
