15 May 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 15th [May 1896]. I went directly after breakfast to sit to Passini for the last time before he goes away to Berlin—& came home by 12. Painted till lunch when arrived Lady Kenmare, Miss Guyse, & Lady Airlie to lunch. Afterwards I showed them the pictures & the house. Then Augusta & I went out in gondola to the Stabto V. & Murano to give some orders for Mrs Rate—to the Montalbas to get some drawing paper from Clara & then home to tea intending to go out again after tea– Ersilia Canevaro & her sister Maria came also Dss della Grazia & Maria, then Lady Margaret Levett—& then Olga Montenegro so that we did not get out again—& afterwards Ct & Css Belmondo came just before dinner. It was a tiring day for me. I had entertained at lunch for the 1st time alone & it seemed more strange than ever– It seems as if I should never get accustomed to my new life! We dined at 8 & went very early to bed.
