8 June 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 8th [June 1896]. I remained in bed till 11 & wrote letters—& got a good rest. After lunch copied pictures & was at work when to my surprise was announced “Countess Pisani”– She had come to town for a few days & had a long chat & then went off home– Clara & Hilda Montalba came to tea & to see their parrot who has now happily mated with a parrot I had sent purposely from Florence. Then came Mme Kwekwitsch & Iduna Bel & the latter took us out for a row in her gondola & to call on Css Pisani & we went round by Passini’s to invite him to dine tomorrow & to ask him if he would paint a portrait of Sir Charles Evan Smith’s daughter but he said he was too much occupied & could not do it. Dined us 2 alone & went very early to bed.
