17 June 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 17th [June 1896]. I copied the picture by Montagna in the morning. Sir C. & Lady Evan Smith came to tea to bid us goodbye as they are leaving Venice tomorrow. We took Sir Charles out with us & went to the Eden’s garden & finding them alone had a pleasant hour there chatting. The Madonna lilies are in perfection there now. In the afternoon had a visit from Princess Adine & Ct Hugo Windischgrätz to tell me that their niece Valentine Mocenigo is engaged to marry Ct Robilant a good marriage wh gives general satisfaction. We took a row in the evening & fetched Ellen Montalba & took her with us.
