18 June 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 18th [June 1896]. Finished copying the picture by Montagna. After lunch we read aloud to each other. Mme Noce called & recounted all her sorrows about a maid who had stolen money & jewelry. At 4 I went to pay a visit to the wife of the French consul who lives next door at Pal. Grimani—Mme Le Mallier—& to leave various cards– Returned home to tea & then went out again to Piazza & then for a row. The air was deliciously cool. Came home at 7 & had a visit from Iduna Bel, her husband & her sister Aimée Princess Cariati who I have not seen for 3 years. After dinner we read aloud to each other & to bed early.
