19 June 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 19th [June 1896]. Piping hot day. Painted fan. Had a visit from Miss Leigh Smith & her friend Lady Kingston who wanted to see our pictures. After lunch Augusta & I read aloud & worked. Had a visit from Bss Oesterreicher & later from Iduna Bel & Aimée Cariati & they stayed to tea– When they left I went for a row with Augusta to the Eden’s garden. I helped Carry to cut dead roses. Aug. stayed in the gondola to sketch. Home a little late for dinner– After dinner went for a row by Canareggio & Fondamenta Nuove– Lovely night—hot & bright moon—very sad–
