2 July 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 2nd [July 1896]. Cooler & the rain is over. I wrote a lot of letters arranged & packed for tomorrow’s departure. In afternoon Clara & Hilda & Augustus Montalba came to see me—also Passini & Mme Blumede (Countess Brazza’s mother). An Irish lady married to a Russian—clever & eccentric. After tea I took the Montalba girls out in gondola to the Eden’s garden & spent an hour there returning home by dinner time. Abt 10 Css & Ct Belmondo & Princess Cariati came to see me to bid me goodbye & stayed abt an hour.
