6 August 1896 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Thursday. 6th [August 1896]. Sophy & I had early tea in my room & the Css came abt 10 to say she was going out—so I accompanied her. We drove to a farm & it was as good as a play. The peasants were called in one by one to have their names put on the list of those who were going to work on the threshing machine– A good looking set especially the woman. When the machine was started we went on to other farms—& only got back to Vescovana for lunch. The weather was hot & threatening. After lunch we rested & then had tea at 4 & Sophy went out with the Css to drive to a farm. I walked in the garden under the care of the gardener to inspect the plants & at sunset I sat & watched the ipomea mexicana flower come out. We all went early to bed.
