26 August 1896 — Villa Mier, Belluno
Wednesday. 26th August [1896]. Sophy & I left Mier by 1.30 train & returned to Venice. We had intended going over the Ampezzo to Inspruck as I was to be at Cronberg to pay a visit to the Empress Frederick on 3rd Sept—but I did not feel well & we thought it best for me to go first to consult Dr Cini. The Curtis having kindly urged our going to stay with them for a short time while we decided on our plans we did so & were met at the station at Venice by Mr Curtis & conveyed in his gondola to Palazzo Barbaro. There we had a sumptuous apartment on the upper floor. In the same train with us from Belluno were the Bishop of Ely & Lady Alwyne Compton & her niece Miss Anderson– At Feltre they were joined by Miss L. Gordon & Miss Soulsby & they all came on to Venice.
