26 September 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 26th [September 1896]. Typed in the morning & then went out at 10.30 to go to the Hotel Britannia to join the Saxe Meiningens & to accompany them to Mr Wood’s studio to see his pictures. From there we went to Mainella’s studio to see his water colours of which he has quantities—views of Venice, Consple, Egypt & the Holy Land. The Prince & Pss admire them tremendously. Mainella is a quaint little man. Young still—very dark with an olive complexion. His studio was arranged with every kind of bible in an artistic manner. Thence we went to the Montalbas & Clara & Hilda showed their works– I then left the Princes at Olga Mocenigo’s where they were to lunch & I came home to my own lunch.
