3 October 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 3rd October [1896]. I went off with George Gordon to St Mark’s at 9 & we went up into the gallery from whence we saw the Mocenigo-Robilant wedding. Clara Montalba joined us & she made a sketch of the marriage. The Palla d’oro was uncovered & some beautiful embroideries were put out– The service lasted over an hour– Mrs Hanson & Kathleen & Nevil Gordon went to [be] among the invités to the church & afterwards to the breakfast. I did not go on acct of my mourning & George had no proper wedding coat. The others returned just in time for lunch. We watched the wedding party starting in their gondolas for the station just before our lunch– Lord & Lady Reay & Iduna came to tea.
