16 October 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 16th [October 1896]. The account of the storm in this morning’s newspapers tell us it was the worst seen here for many days. All the shipping was in danger. The weather today was lovely but a good deal colder. Typed & copied Savoldo. After lunch went to the Eden’s garden with Nevil—leaving George on board the “Ercole” to pay Belmondo a visit. Home by 5 after paying Aspasie a short visit. Visit from Mr Fitzgerald Law—husband of the Greek lady who came the other day. He talked much of Turkey & Russia—& was solemn & long winded. He is a man of abt 50– They leave for England tomorrow. Ida Bel came & brought a Greek officer with her to call. He is on board the King of Greece’s yacht now waiting for him at Trieste. Dined at 7 & George & I went to a concert at the Sailor’s Institute. Lovely night.
