3 November 1896 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 3rd [November 1896]. Wrote all the morning. After lunch I went to see Mrs Rate who is somewhat better. Sat an hour with her & then went to see Frances Thesiger & her new baby boy. She was downstairs for the 1st time since he was born & she was very happy & blooming & Mr Thesiger very pleased also. I came home to tea. Ruth, Virgie, & July Du Cane came to tea & later Louis & his sister Alice Murray. The Murrays want me to allow them to read thro’ the MSS of Henry’s mission at Consple that they may have an article written on Cyprus in the Quarterly. I promised to refer the matter to Duncannon & when he came this evening to dine with me we discussed the matter & came to the conclusion that we cannot well do this. I asked him to read Henry’s MS letters to Lord Hammond wh I have just type written—letters during 1879, 1880 & 1881. I am to send them to him tomorrow.
