21 May 1897 — Coole Park, Gort, County Galway
Friday. 21st May [1897]. Typed in the early morning—& painted later. Abt 4 oclock abt 40 of the girls from the Convent work room came over in a large break & 2 side cars from Gort to spend the afternoon. Augusta took them in 2 detachments into the house to show it to them—& I walked them abt the gardens– Then at 5 we took them all down to the shores of the lake where they sat & had tea—a fire being lighted on the ground to heat the kettle. Then Mr Dooly the keeper took them out in the boat on the lake in parties of ten which was a great delight to them & we returned to tea at the house. They started off again for Gort abt 7 with their hands full of flowers & an orange a piece having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We took a short walk before dinner– Reading in the evening.
