23 July 1897 — Bere Cottage, Bere Regis, Dorset
Friday. 23rd July [1897]. Spent nearly the whole morning putting up flowers in the drawing room. Mrs Mansell Pleydell & Miss Osborn, daughter of “S.G.O.”—Lord Sydney Godolphin Osborn came from Whatcombe to tea with us. We expected Nellie Alderson & George Gordon (Lord Stanmore’s son) to come here today but they did not do so. At 6 I drove Arthur Du Cane in the poney carriage to Chamberlain’s Bridge & we fished. I caught a good 6½ lb trout. Arthur got nothing. We came home to supper after 9– Besique in evening.
