9 September 1897 — Salce, Belluno
Thursday. 9th [September 1897]. Out at 8.30 & went into the lane with Carry to dig fern roots to send to Css Pisani for her rockery. Tried to paint view over the valley in afternoon with no success & quite in despair. In the evening after 4 o’cl tea Mr Eden & I painted on another sketch of the lawn & garden. Carry went off to pay a visit. When she returned the light was fading & it was cold so she & I went for a little walk with the dogs. Dinner at 7.30. Lovely moonlit night. Bed 9.30.
