30 September 1897 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Thursday. 30th [September 1897]. Woke with a bad headache & remained in bed till 5 when I got up to receive Mr & Mrs Thesiger & Nela who have come to stay with me. It is the first time Nela has been here since Henry’s death & we were both nervous & upset tho’ we said nothing. Francie had also last been here that April in 1894 when Henry’s illness had declared itself & we had left her behind when we went off so suddenly. After dinner we all went out in gondola & the Thesigers took a turn in Piazza. Lovely night. | |
