12 October 1897 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Tuesday. 12th [October 1897]. Fred & Francie left for Padua & Ravenna by 9.30 train. I breakfasted in bed. Up at 10 & had a long interview with Mattei the engineer on various matters in the house. Spent some time in the kitchen looking thro’ cupboards &c & giving instructions to Kate. After lunch Nela & I went in gondola to the Eden’s garden & found Mr & Mrs Eden there, had tea with them & walked with them & picked roses. Nela went for a row in the sandolo from there. Mr Carey paid me a visit to talk over church & Sailor’s Institute. We had a very good plain dinner & a quiet house & I was quite relieved. Played besique & patience with Nela in eveng. | |
