8 November 1897 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 8th [November 1897]. I got a letter from the Empress telling me to go to Trent at the end of this week so I settled to go on Saty next. Typed. Directly after lunch had a visit from Countess Pils di Carpacci née Holas whom I had known where she was a girl & I used to give her embroidery to do. She married a Sicilian employed in the Mercantile Navy & they are poor & have 5 children & she wants me to give her embroidery to do only begging me not to speak of it for the sake of her husband’s family. Mrs Eden came to see us & I went out with her to order a bonnet & then went over with her to her garden. Nela went out in sandolo. Home to tea. Countess Canevaro came to tea & brought a pretty young Baroness Franchetti with her. Mr Cozzi her brother also came & Mme Mayneri & her daughter– Reading aloud in the evening.
