24 February 1898 — Bere Cottage, Bere Regis, Dorset
Thursday. 24th [February 1898]. The postman thought the road to Wareham was passable—altho’ there had been 10 degrees of frost in the night. I went to visit Mr Hibbs & returned him some newspapers he had lent us to read. At 11 Jane & I started off in a hired waggonette for Wareham. I had intended to leave for Inwood by the 1.11 train but finding I could not telegraph there I decided to return to town with Jane by the 1.24 train—so I got to Savile Row at 5. Theo Guest & her daughter Anita had arrived at 3 to stay with me to go to a Drawing Room tomorrow—& they had tea with me– I gave them my bedroom & I slept in Monty’s room. We 3 dined together. Nellie was out.
