25 February 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 25th [February 1898]. After breakfast I walked to Half Moon St to see Arthur & tell him about our visit to Bere. Found him a good deal better. The Drs satisfied with him & hopeful that he may live sometime. Rhuvon is allowed to return to Egypt & starts next Friday. Nellie returned to Savile Row with me to see Theo & Anita dressed out in their finery. They left here at 1 & returned abt 4, had tea & left by 5.55 train for Inwood. Maria & Daisy Du Cane came to see them dressed in the morning. Had a short visit from Sophy Palmer who settled to lunch here tomorrow. After tea I went off to the dress maker & then came straight back. Connie came in, in a state of excitement to say she had been told at the Drawing room today that Elaine Guest is going to be married to a clergyman– She went off to see if Blanche knew anything & came back to say she had also heard the report– Later on I got a Note from Elaine herself to announce her engagement to a Mr Villiers Rector of Haverland. Monty arrived this evening from Monte Carlo. I saw him for a moment & he went out with Nelly who came here for a few moments– I dined alone.
