22 March 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 22nd [March 1898]. I woke with a bad headache & remained in bed till lunch. Miss Katie Bagot came to see me & sat by my bed talking for some time. Monty Alderson & Mr Sheppard (Sub Dean of the Chapel Royal) came to lunch. Monty is anxious to get a readership at St James Chap. Royal & Mr Sheppard has the appointment in his hands & seemed to take a fancy to Monty & promised to remember him at the next vacancy—so the little lunch party was a success. When they left I retired to the sofa in my room & there remained. Maria came to tea with Kate—& the latter went out to dine with Duncannons & I went to bed– Onie Ponsonby came & sat with me in the afternoon a while– My new housemaid Sarah Mellan came today & Laura the exhousemaid takes my maid’s place pro tem.
