19 April 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 19th [April 1898]. I walked Elaine at in the morning & took her to do her shopping. Directly after lunch went to see Arthur. He told me he hoped to come downstairs today & when Nelly came back to dinner this evening she said he had walked downstairs—had sat in the drawing room in an armchair & then walked upstairs again. This is a great advance which we hardly dared to hope for 3 weeks ago. At 3 Blanche’s carriage called for me & I went to fetch Maria & took her for a drive. It was a bitter cold E. Wind & I was glad to get home. Found Elaine waiting for me to have tea. Mr Villiers came later & took Elaine out walking. Connie came & had tea also. Elaine, Nelly & I dined together & went early to bed–
