12 May 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 12th [May 1898]. I breakfasted in my room & found Arthur in the drawing room having his breakfast when I came down. He had not had a very good night & the hemorrhage had begun again. I sat with him some time in the morning. Theo & Aura called also Aline Lambton came to see me and sat a little while till her mother joined her & took her away. Lady Alwyn Compton came to see me with Miss Sowerby the Principal of the women’s college at Oxford. I sat with Arthur again in the afternoon. He was rather difficult to understand at times his head not being very clear. We had 5 o’cl tea with him for Mr Bond & Arthur had his coffee. He was wheeled to his room & had his bath– Mr Bond came afterwards & told Nellie & me that he did not find Arthur so well. Mr Bircham came in for a few moments just as Arthur was going to his bath but he did not stay till his return. Nela came to see me & I walked up to Cav. Sqr with her to pay a little visit to Blanche—& then went on alone to Mr Rate & saw him about the Venice Church. He promised me £50 towards the building of the organ gallery there. I returned home & dined alone. Arthur went to bed abt 8.30. I went early to bed.
