13 May 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 13th May [1898]. Arthur had rather a better night but I fear is losing ground. Sat with him after breakfast– Blanche came to see him. He was wheeled into the drawing room in the morning. Mrs Jellicoe came to see him & sat with him in the afternoon. He told her at once that he was worse & that the hemorrhage had set in again. It continued all day. Merthyr came & saw him & Theo sat downstairs with me. Cornelia also came to see me to enquire after Arthur & to ask me to belong to a charitable committee wh I know I cant do. Mildred Mansell came also but she could not see her father as he had already seen too many people & was tired. Nellie & I took a short walk in the afternoon & came in early to see Mr Bond but he came in our absence—& we missed him. Mary Alderson dined with me & went on to a ball with her cousins the Ponsonbys. Nellie dined out. I am very anxious about Arthur tonight. I woke at 2 & hearing Nurse Papworth going up to bed I opened my door & asked after Arthur. She said he was sleeping well.
