25 May 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 25th [May 1898]. Arthur had a good night. Dr Bond came to him at 9 A.M. so I hurried down after breakfast in my room to see him before he left & he expressed himself satisfied with him. He was not so lively today as he was yesterday but still he kept clear in the head. Merthyr came to see him & Theo to see me. I wrote letters &c in morning. Sat a while with Arthur. After lunch Nellie & I went up to him & sat there till he fell asleep when we went out. Mrs Jellico came to see him & they played bésique. We had tea in the drawing room—Arthur was in his own room. Mr A. Glyn came to tea– At 6 I went in a hansom to see Maria– She was very tired & ailing so I only remained a few minutes & thence went to Cav. Sqr & saw Blanche. She was better & downstairs. Came home—dressed & went to dine with Mollie Alderson & her brother Charlie. Met Lady Selborne, Sir Robt Herbert who took me to dinner, Mrs Rod, mother of Mr Rennell Rod, a handsome old lady & very pleasant, Miss Monk, Mr Boyle & a Mr Murray & Mr Otto Goldschmidt. A young baritone a Mr Worthington came there after dinner & sang very prettily accompanied by Mr Goldschmidt. He is going to study & make singing his profession. Lady Selborne kindly brought me home in her carriage.
