6 June 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 6th June [1898]. Breakfast in my own room as usual. Rhuvon breakfasted in the drawing room with Arthur. I wrote letters read & worked till luncheon. Saw a maid who I think would do for Maria. Nellie & I lunched with Arthur. My sister Kate arrived from Peterboro to stay with me. She came while we were at lunch & joined the little party on the lobby on the top of the stairs. At 3 Onie Ponsonby called in the Duncannon carriage & took Kate, Nellie & me out driving. We went to Lemson in Oxford St & I chose an invalid chair for Arthur to wheel himself about in a sitting position for he has suddenly taken a wish to sit up & says he is tired of lying on his back. We then went on to Park Crescent & I told Maria I had found her a maid. To my surprise I found she would not hear of having her & said she had never said she would do so. There was nothing to be done so I left the subject. Nela & Daisy accompanied me part of the way home. Mrs Jellico & Rhuvon were at tea with us (Kate was out) & then they played cards with Arthur. Merthyr & Theo came to call after 7. Mr Bircham paid Arthur a visit. All this made us very late & Kate, Nellie & I sat down to dinner at 8.30. Kate is sharing my room with me.
