7 June 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 7th [June 1898]. Kitty & I breakfasted at 9 in my room. Arthur seemed very well & played bésique with Rhuvon. Kate sat & talked with me & so the morning went by. Rhuvon & Kate remaining on to luncheon Nellie went out & we managed to get one more person in to Arthur’s lunch table quite comfortably & after lunch Kate sat & talked to him while Rhuvon smoked & we had our coffee. At 3 Kate & I prepared to go out walking but it was so hot that we waited on till 4 & then took a short walk & Kate went on to tea with a friend. I returned home. Arthur had Mrs Jellico, Dr Bond, Rhuvon & Arthur Du Cane to tea with him. Blanche came to see me but did not remain. Maria came with Julie & we sat out in the patio & I foraged about & got tea for ourselves. We were joined by Augustus Alderson. Mr Gould the surgeon came to see Arthur later. Both he & Bond are pleased with Arthur’s progress. It was a warm day & I was very tired so I went up to my room to rest. Dacre Du Cane came to see me & they brought him up to my room & he sat & talked till it was time to dress for dinner. Kate & I went to dine with the Merthyr’s. Went in to say good night to Arthur before leaving & found him reading his papers & quite lively & determined not to go to bed till 9. We had to wait some time for dinner as Merthyr had gone to consult a Dr about a bad cough he has got but otherwise he seems well & eat a good dinner. We came home about 11.30 to bed.
