2 July 1898 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 2nd [July 1898]. Another lovely day with a pleasant cool breeze. Had a lesson of Mlle Diamanti– Lunched with Nellie & Arthur. He was very dull & quiet today & slept a great deal. He had some difficulty in remembering his words. Monty came in after lunch. He was in town for a short time passing thro’ only. Arthur went into his own room in the afternoon. Nela came to see me & brought some flowers from Cornelia. She had a party—a dinner & concert last night at Wimborne House & had quantities of flowers from Canford for decoration & sent some on to us. Nela helped me to arrange the flowers & went away abt 5. The afternoon papers gave the end of the trial of Dr Collins—his sentence to 7 years imprisonment for manslaughter having caused the death of Mrs Uzielli by an illegal operation. Everyone is pleased that he should not have escaped this time—as he did the last time he was tried for the same sort of thing. Rhuvon went away today till Monday. Mrs Jellicoe came to tea. I went out for a walk at 6—to Cav. Sqr. Only found Onie at home & she walked with me to Park Crescent to call on Maria. She was out in a Bath chair. Saw Richard & then walked back to 17 Cav. Sqr & saw Blanche. She accompanied me part of my way home. Met Mr Burton & left him with Blanche. Arthur was alone when I came in & sat with him for ½ hour till I had to go & have my dinner & he went to his own room. I dined alone. Sat in the patio. Visited Nurse Papworth & to bed.
