30 August 1898 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Tuesday. 30th [August 1898]. Everybody but myself went cub hunting before daybreak this morning. I breakfasted in my bedroom & then wrote letters. The hunting party returned by lunch time. All this week the weather was hot & we sat out working & talking in the garden under the trees. Augusta with her terriers went out most days rabbit hunting—not a very ladylike occupation for a girl of 19—but she has been brought up to think of nothing else. She is clever & trains dogs & horses well. Tho’ the manoeuvres are going on in the country round here we saw & heard nothing of them.
