7 September 1898 — Branksome Dene, Poole, Dorset
Wednesday. 7th September [1898]. Woke with a headache so remained in bed till lunch time writing & reading. Maria came & sat with me. She seems less feeble today & managed to get from her bedroom to mine without help. It is painful to see how she lurches forward when she walks—& she says that often when she starts to go one way her feet carry her in the opposite direction. The great heat we are now having tries her a good deal. Daisy takes the most tender care of her & watches her every wish & wheels her about in her chair. Frida Du Cane, a cousin, arrived to stay here.
