8 September 1898 — Branksome Dene, Poole, Dorset
Thursday. 8th [September 1898]. We sat in the garden all day—it being too hot to move about much. Ruth returned home from paying visits. Went for a walk outside the grounds with Daisy & Maria in her chair. Tea on the lawn at 5 & at 6 I left Branksome Dene & drove to the station accompanied by Daisy where we parted & I took the train to Wimborne & went to Canford. Found there Ivor & Cornelia, Constance Eliot, the Duke of Marlboro’—& Mr Bertie Grosvenor, son of Lord Ebury, Rosie & Ivor Jr. Walked round the terrace with Connie before dinner & after dinner with Cornelia. It was a hot star lit night. Everybody is talking of the extraordinary heat—like July or Aug.
