4 December 1898 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 4th [December 1898]. It rained in the night & was cloudy this morning. Augusta & I went to morning service. Mr Edmonds officiated—a lifeless man very like in every way to Mr Cary. Small congregation & feeble singing. I almost the only person to sing at the age of 55! After lunch it became beautifully bright– I sent off all the English servants to the Lido. Mrs Brown called; she is a cracky old lady & rather entertaining. I went afterwards to see Belmondo who is still in bed & still has fever—took him a “nightingale” in red flannel to wrap round him in bed. Returned to fetch Augusta & went to see Mlle Aspasie & sat a little while with her & then went to Palazzo Barbaro to tea with the Curtis & home–
