11 December 1898 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 11th [December 1898]. There was a fog when I woke at 7 but it cleared off & we had a lovely day with a soft blue haze in the sunshine. We went to church in the morning. There were very few people & the music was feeble & I had to lead it. We walked back home round by Piazza Manini & Rialto. I painted a little & got on with my water colour copy of Moroni’s portrait—the man in a black cap. Went out in gondola at 3.30 to Piazza—the band playing, the big flags up & a crowd of people walking. Then to see the Edens at 4.30 & had tea with them. Mr Woods called about 6 to talk about the Organ loft to be made in the church.
