10 January 1899 — Rome | |
Tuesday. 10th [January 1899]. Very tired & cold after my journey so I remained quiet all the morning & lunched at the hotel– Lady Somers & Adeline Bedford came to see me abt 3 & found me hugging a hot water bottle. I wrote a quantity of letters all the morning & amongst them one to Aug: Gregory telling her all about the Browning affair. At 4.30 Adeline Bedford called for me & we went to the Brit. Embassy to pay a state call—but did not find Lady Currie at home; thence to Lady Vivian’s to tea & I introduced Addie to Lady V. then returned to my hotel & went to bed at 7 & slept the clock round. | |
