5 March 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 5th [March 1899]. I wrote Fannie a long letter & sent her a telegram to Athens to say I had done so. Went to morning service & afternoon I went on foot to the Edens & thence joined by gondola at the Piazzetta. Carry was in bed & not visible. I went to the Montalbas to tea. The sky was threatening & a thunderstorm began so that I remained but a short time with them & then hurried home but was caught on the way by rain & thunder & lightening. Iduna Belmondo & Count Grimani of S. Tomà now Sindaco of Venice came to call about 6. It was a blowy night after a sharp thunderstorm. Today was Henry’s birthday.
