12 April 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 12th [April 1899]. Packed & arranged the Memoirs to take to England. The Empress called at 12.30 but only remained a few minutes as she had to go home to lunch. After lunch I went to see Iduna & then fetched Louie Vivian & we went to [illegible word] garden to buy plants for my window & then on to the Eden’s garden & had tea there– There Louie V., baby & I went to the Piazza & from there walked home & shopped as we went. Louie gave me as a surprise a beautiful large old book rest to stand in the drawing room. It is a thing I have wanted since I saw one in the Queen of Italy’s room this winter. It is very decorative.
