24 April 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 24th [April 1899]. Today there was an opening of an Art Exhibition here. I was invited but did not care to go. The Duke of Genoa came for a few hours to do the ceremony. There were some gaudy “bissoni” to accompany the Sindaco when he went to fetch the Duke. Mrs Edgecumbe & Clara came to lunch with me & were both very charming. When they were gone I went out in gondola & returned to tea. In the evening I had a few people come to see me but as it was a gala night at the Fenice many who had promised to do so never came. The Belmondos came & went on from me to the theatre.
