27 April 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 27th [April 1899]. Clara Montalba came to see me & take leave of me. A Mr Bailey came to see the pictures & I let him in. I had known him in former days. Sent Knapp to the station with my bags & the Belmondos called for me & took me in theirs to the 2 P.M. train. At the station the Sindaco came to see me off also Mrs Eden & I saw Ct & Css Valentine Robilant & her mother Olga Mocenigo. The Robilants went by the same train to Turin. I told Pasquale to send me the account of the cost of the luggage taken by the servants last night so they will not be able to cheat me. Got to Milan abt 8 & walked to the Hotel du Nord close by—got a little dinner & went to bed quite done up.
