7 May 1899 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 7th May [1899]. I went to the German Chapel Royal service at 10 o’cl. Coming out I met Lady de Winton whom I had known so intimately in former years first at Gibraltar & then at Consple when her husband was military attaché to the Embassy. He is now Comptroller of the D. of York’s household & they have a pretty little house in St James’ Palace. I went there with Lady de Winton & had a talk with her about old days & old friends & then came home. My sister Constance came to see me having come on her bycicle & she remained to lunch & went off directly afterwards. Nellie Alderson also lunched at home. I remained quietly at home for the rest of the day & had visits from Lord Stanmore & his daughter Nevil & later Sir Henry Thompson who seems to me a good deal aged since I saw him last year. He is over 80 & is growing a beard. Nellie dined out. I dined alone.
