13 July 1899 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 13th [July 1899]. Got a letter from an English man I had engaged as butler declining to come to me so I had to set to work to find another & I sent for an Italian who had been most highly recommended to me & he came at 2 o’cl. I like the look of him & tho’ he is young think I will try him. Corise Rodney came to luncheon. She is so young & pretty & gentle that one could not forget & pity her misfortunes—tho’ she did not refer to them. She left at 2 & then I went down to Cromwell Road to call on Gertie Seymer & ask if by chance she knew of a servant. She being out I take it as a sign that I am to have the Italian & so decided. Came home to tea. Blanche came to tea with me & Nellie also & after tea we drove up to Cav. Sqr with Blanche in her carriage & walked home & dined quietly at home.
