29 July 1899 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 29th July [1899]. A piping hot day. Cornelia came to see me in the course of the morning to say Ivor has decided to start tomorrow. Connie also called & promised to come again to dine if she could get away. I remained at home till 4 when I took leave of Nellie who leaves for a country visit this afternoon—& went in a hansom to see the Vivians. Lady V. was a little better. I sat in the garden with the girls & then we walked together they, Miss Kerm & I thro’ the Park to Curzon St where we took leave of each other & they walked home & I to my home. I found a card from Mrs Curtis saying she wanted to see me & was staying at an hotel at Cork St so I went to try & see them. As they were out I left word to beg them to come to see me in the eveng. Ivor came to dine & also Richard Du Cane– Constance came later. The Curtis’ came also & Mrs C. gave me a long account of the ups & downs in the Browning menage but hopes Fanny is going to make a success of it. They have all left early & the house is very still as I write. I must get to bed–
