8 September 1899 — Wengen
Friday. 8th [September 1899]. Another lovely day but towards afternoon storms came up & we had thunder & showers. We moved out of our comfortable quarters in the afternoon from the Wetterhorn to the Alpenrose—as our landlord wished to close the dependence & fill up the bigger hotel. We had very good rooms but the table d’hôte was larger & the food more pretentious & less good. The 2 other couples (German) were also moved up to the Alpenrose & we all deplored our loss of quiet.
